The guides on this site exist to help homeowners, landlords and businesses understand asbestos surveys and the rules around them, which are often explained badly. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.

01

Who writes it

Our guides are written and reviewed by people who work on asbestos surveys, not by an unconnected content agency.

02

What it is based on

  • The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, and HSE’s Approved Code of Practice and guidance that accompanies them (L143, Managing and working with asbestos).
  • HSE’s Asbestos: The survey guide (HSG264).
  • HSE’s published guidance on the duty to manage and on licensed, notifiable non-licensed and non-licensed asbestos work.

Where something is common practice rather than law, we say so. Where the law is unclear, we say that too, rather than inventing certainty.

03

Independence

We do not accept payment to feature a product, removal contractor or laboratory. There is no sponsored content and there are no affiliate links. Where we recommend acting on something, it is because the regulations or the survey findings call for it, not because it creates work for us.

04

What it is not

Our guidance is general information, not legal advice, and not a substitute for a survey of your building. The dutyholder keeps the legal duty.

05

Review

Guides are reviewed when the law or HSE guidance changes, and at least once a year. Corrections are handled under our Corrections Policy.
