Corrections Policy.

How we correct mistakes, in a survey report or in the guidance published on this site.

Policy · Updated 1 November 2026
HomeCorrections Policy

We issue reports that dutyholders, builders and contractors rely on, and we publish guidance about asbestos surveys and the law. Both need to be right, and both get corrected when they are not.

01

Errors in a report

If you think your report contains a factual error, such as a wrong address, an item recorded in the wrong location, or a laboratory result attached to the wrong sample, tell us and we will check it. Genuine errors are corrected and a revised report is issued free of charge. Where a correction changes a finding or a recommended action, the revised report says so plainly.

02

Professional judgement

Presuming a material contains asbestos, assessing its condition and recommending an action are professional judgements made against HSE’s guidance. If you disagree with one, we will explain our reasoning and reconsider it. If we still disagree, you are entitled to a second opinion from another surveyor, and we will share our findings and laboratory results with them.

03

Errors on this website

If guidance on this site is wrong or out of date, tell us. We check it against current legislation and HSE guidance and correct it. Where someone might have acted on the wrong information, we note the change and its date on the page rather than editing silently.

04

How quickly

  • Website errors: corrected within 5 working days of being confirmed.
  • Report errors: revised report within 10 working days, sooner where the finding is urgent or building work is about to start.
